After its MLC subsidiary embraced the open-plan workspace, the National Australia Bank Hong Kong decided to ‘open up’ its own people to a more interactive and collaborative working environment.
Having seen how MLC, then its subsidiary, benefited from an open plan workspace created by M Moser, National Australia Bank Hong Kong decided to "open up" for its own people, bringing everyone together in an open and interactive workspace.
Obstruction to open plan is kept to a minimum. The 18 enclosed personal offices along the window disappeared, as were the traditional 90 degree workstations. Instead, all people including the CEO are now sitting in 120 degree workstation clusters that foster communication and synergy.
Where enclosed spaces are necessary, they are grouped together away from the window, so that partitions can be shared, and people in the open plan can better enjoy natural light and views.
Inefficient space usage is eliminated through space planning and reorganization. The same floor is now able to offer a generous breakout area/pantry, more meeting space, as well as better connectedness through improved circulation and flow.
