Dick Markel adds ‘strength & dexterity’ to M Moser's design-delivery capability
After 30 years of delivering over 17 million sq-ft of corporate interiors, base buildings, sales centers, and education, government and training facilities, Dick Markel possesses a record of experience and capability rarely matched in the workplace design industry today. As a new Director at M Moser Associates, Markel is applying his substantial know-how to expanding and tailoring the firm’s IPD-based offerings for clients in the US and around the globe.
“Dick’s background means he is already familiar with the needs of many of our current clients, and combined with his great experience in both real estate strategy and project management, he offers a very accurate perspective on identifying client objectives and expectations, and matching them with appropriate delivery methodologies,” says David Weinberg, Director, Head of Office, M Moser New York.
To Markel, communication is as important as design talent and technology in developing M Moser’s ‘holistic’ approach to workplace projects. “Above and beyond everything else, a successful project demands communication at all levels,” he observes. “Communication deficits are the source of nearly every symptom of a ‘challenging’ project.
Markel’s professional career began at a major national architecture firm in 1981, after he gained his MArch from the University of Michigan. Over the next 15 years he practiced architecture and planning for clients in sectors as diverse as energy, finance, accounting, technology and legal, rising to the position of Senior Associate. For nearly a decade, he gained experience at two US-based international corporate real estate advisory firms, respectively as Vice President Project Management and Managing Director.
Currently, as well as being a licensed architect and LEED AP, Markel is also a licensed real estate agent in Texas. At M Moser, he will work closely with the firm’s offices in New York and globally from his base in Houston.
“Another important facet of Dick’s approach to work is his emphasis on communication and collaboration, which stems from his experience working as a member of an integrated team,” says Weinberg. “It makes him a very natural fit with M Moser’s IPD project approach.”
