Workplace Designer & Project Manager

M Moser Associates’ San Francisco office continues to grow and is searching for talented and hard-working professionals who want to grow with us. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Designer with strong technical skills and a desire to pivot into a Project Management role.

Position Overview

As the Designer / Project Manager in this unique position, you will take on three different types of work within your role:

  1. You will support our Design Team Lead as an experienced Designer
  2. You will lead small design projects independently, including scheduling and client management
  3. You will partner with our Associate Project Manager on large, complex, workplace projects

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of design proposals/ pitches for new large-scale project opportunities on a consistent basis
  • Work as an integral member of design/build teams, participating in concept development, design documentation, through construction administration
  • Communicate concepts and technical drawings using various design tools including but not limited to Revit, AutoCad, SketchUp, Rhino.
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification technique
  • Report and escalate to management as needed
  • Successfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Interact with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
  • Liaise with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects
  • Adapt plans according to circumstances and resolving any problems that may arise during construction
  • Travel regularly to building sites, proposed locations and client meetings

Skills, Attitudes and Qualifications

To be successful in this Designer / Project Manager role, you must be exceptionally driven to uncover and deliver out-of-the-box solutions to your clients’ design problems. You must be confident in your design decisions and be able to effectively manage clients’ expectations. You must have a “can-do” attitude, love a challenge, and have a natural interest in design leadership and management.

Some of the experience and qualities we expect for our successful Designer/ Project Manager include:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in working on commercial projects as a Designer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Design, or another related field preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year in project leadership, including the delivery of at least 2 small-medium corporate commercial design projects in the San Francisco Bay area
  • Advanced Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), InDesign
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with an excellent ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exemplary skills in dealing with people, able to work with and manage teams
  • LEED accreditation and familiarity with the Design-Build process, preferred
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, from pre-lease services through post-occupancy
  • Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship manager skills
  • An active presence in the A&D community
