Workplace Design Project Manager - Interior Architecture

M Moser Associates award-winning New York office is looking to hire an experienced Designer with strong technical skills who has exposure to and is interested in Project Management.

In the Project Manager – Designer position, you will lead a team in the design and delivery of workplace design and design/build projects, managing all aspects of key client projects from early concept and client interviews stages through to execution and final close out.

Position Overview

The Project Manager - Designer position is unique in that you will take on three different types of work within your role:

  • You will support our Design Team Lead as an experienced Designer
  • You will lead small design projects, including scheduling and client management, independently
  • You will partner with our Associate Project Manager on large, complex, workplace projects.

This position requires a dynamic and motivated Designer with exceptional organizational and time management skills. It is important that you are confident in your design decisions and are able to effectively manage clients’ expectations while providing clear direction to the Project Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as an integral member of design/build teams, participating in concept development, design documentation, through construction administration
  • Assist in the preparation of design proposals/ pitches for new large scale project opportunities on a consistent basis
  • Communicate concepts and technical drawings using various design tools including Revit, AutoCad, SketchUp, Rhino.
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Successfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders, interpret their needs and requirements and represent them in the field
  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel’s performance) and report regularly on project status
  • Liaise with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects
  • Travel regularly to building sites, proposed locations and client meetings

Some of the experience and qualifications we expect for our successful Design Project Manager include:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in working on commercial projects as a Designer
  • Minimum 1-2 years in project leadership, including the delivery of at least 2 small-medium corporate commercial design projects in New York
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Design, or other related field preferred
  • Advanced Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), InDesign
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with an excellent ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exemplary skills in dealing with people, able to work with and manage teams
  • LEED accreditation and familiarity with the Design-Build process, preferred
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, from pre-lease services through post-occupancy
  • Proven fiscal accountability and responsibility
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship manager skills
  • An active presence in the A&D community
