Delivering a distinct, yet neutral space to elevate brand identity

Milliken,
London

Milliken presented M Moser with several unique challenges for its Clerkenwell showroom. Keen for a platform to showcase its products, Milliken wanted a distinct yet neutral space that would elevate the brand in a manner consistent with the style established by M Moser for Milliken’s other global showrooms.

By connecting the three floors of Milliken’s Victorian building to form a single vertical space, the design fulfilled several business needs. Capable of hosting large social events, the space is suitable for several functions, from displaying products and supporting transient employees in their daily jobs, to facilitating more formal meetings with clients.

Gallery Experience

The space plays on the tension between the character of the building and the palette of a gallery. Product displayed on the walls and the floors form an accent across the space, while the use of changeable displays means it can be updated in line with product trends. As in an art gallery, the challenge was to create a heavy-wearing space able to support several hundred people attending an event.

By creating different settings within one space, the design enables agile working and the ability to present to, and engage with, customers in a variety of contexts. It was crucial the new spaces had a relationship with each other and felt connected, which we achieved by installing two striking architectural staircases to connect the original showroom to the first and lower ground floors. I love the immediacy of the juxtaposition between the original exposed brickwork and the simple clean lines of the revamped studio. The staircase void between the ground and first floor has been really successful in creating an ambient sense of space and light.”

The showroom has been designed to offer clients a creative environment in which they can meaningfully interact with our products, experiment with different layout options and create beautiful flooring solutions.

The first floor contains a large meeting room and various casual meeting spaces for staff and clients to collaborate on projects. The extensive catalogue of products is displayed in carefully balanced natural light that allows the products to be viewed without the interference of the interior environment.

The new Clerkenwell showroom is true to the Milliken brand standards established by M Moser in New York, Chicago, Shanghai and Beijing but also captures the vibrant, bohemian spirit that uniquely defines Clerkenwell. You are certainly aware that you are in a Milliken environment, but at the same time the space has been designed to connect with the outside and you feel very much part of the Clerkenwell community.
