Putting well-being and productivity at the heart of the design-build process

Yes Bank,
Mumbai

Recognised as one of the fastest-growing banks in the country, Yes Bank’s core mission is to become the “finest large bank in India by 2020”. To support this journey, M Moser was engaged to design and build an additional floor at their Mumbai headquarters, prioritising employee empowerment, health and well-being.

In the process of discussing their workspace goals, Yes Bank highlighted that their employees were a key factor when it came to meeting objectives for the space. The aspiration was to create an exciting, engaging space, breaking free from the monotony of the existing banking floors to address wellness, learning and development.

Fuelling change through collaboration

We began our collaboration with Yes Bank with an immersive strategy workshop where “Change Leaders” were challenged to push their thinking beyond the usual bank space standards. The findings were then distilled into a design brief, which formed the basis of the concept – a space that would challenge banking culture norms and pave the way for a younger, digitally enabled, hospitality-driven culture.

Designed for employee well-being and empowerment

In order to maximise wellness and encourage learning and development, our team designed five distinct zones: the Entrance, Yes Club, Mindshare Garden, Pep Centre and Prosperity Lounge – each providing a unique function.

· Connecting people - Entrance:

Unlike a traditional banking office, the user journey from the entrance blends seamlessly into the wellness centre. This expansive “front of the house” consists of a communal area with welcoming, soft seating where people can unwind, collaborate or work.

· Recharge and rejuvenate - Yes Club:

Equipped with a state-of-the-art gymnasium, spa, mother’s room and sick room, the wellness centre caters to all aspects of mental and physical health. Whether it’s a rigorous workout or winding down with a relaxing massage and spa session, every amenity has been made available.

The wellness zone features warm, natural undertones, reiterating the hospitality theme as it opens into the recreation area – a multifunctional zone designed for informal meetings, calming coffee breaks, or a quick round of pool, table tennis or carom.

· Serenity for the mind - Mindshare Garden:

The Mindshare Garden has been designed as a continuation of the interior space, which enabled the M Moser team to shape it in a way that effortlessly complemented the overall design language.

Primarily serving as a venue for senior leaders to host town hall meetings, this zone is also a welcome respite away from the desk and an ideal venue to share ideas in a breakout setting over lunch or coffee. While echoing a common theme, the design language is reminiscent of an outdoor café, complete with ambient floor lighting and tasteful outdoor accents.

· Sharing knowledge - Pep Centre:

The Pep Centre has been designed to accommodate the endeavours of the Yes School of Banking for training and educating employees. The centre consists of a training room that seats a total of 264 people. This can also be collapsed into smaller, more focused rooms using partitions to create a dynamic and flexible space for knowledge sharing.

The Pep Centre follows a similar design theme in a less formal setting, embracing an aquamarine and grey palette along with wood finishes. The Yes School of Banking has wider access compared to the other zones and is also available to non-employees.

· Captivating visitors - Prosperity Lounge:

Bringing together all the elements of the hospitality theme is the Prosperity Lounge is a versatile space for hosting guests and working lunches for senior management. Residential, hospitality-inspired furniture and warm wood tones provide familiarity and comfort in a space that humanises Yes Bank and captivates visitors.

Pushing the boundaries of traditional banking

Yes Bank’s mission was to establish itself as a high-quality, customer-centric, private Indian Bank catering to the “future businesses of India”. The new office not only translates this vision, but puts employees at the heart of the design-build process to enhance performance, health and well-being for a holistic work-life balance.
