Located in Beijing’s Financial Street, Excel Centre is a Grade A office building surrounded by leading financial institutions. In response to increasing market competition, a new lounge was introduced to strengthen the building’s identity and elevate the everyday workplace experience.
Building on an established partnership, we were appointed to deliver an integrated solution from design development through to implementation. We delivered a flexible shared space that supports daily use, meetings and hosted events, bringing a hospitality-inspired experience into the heart of the building.
Set within the fast-paced context of Beijing’s Financial Street, we designed the lounge as a shared destination that strengthens Excel Centre’s identity while offering a clear contrast to the surrounding environment.
Inspired by the concept of an oasis, the space combines greenery, art and hospitality cues to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Artistic elements are integrated along circulation routes and key sightlines, supporting moments of rest, creativity and connection.
The lounge gives people a place to step away from the hustle of the workday, helping attract tenants and encourage ongoing engagement with the building.
The brief called for spaces supporting different activities, from informal tasks and quick catch-ups to collaboration and events. We organised the lounge into distinct zones that accommodate different ways of using the space, allowing it to shift naturally between quiet moments and busier periods.
Furniture and layouts adapt easily as needs change. This flexibility helps the lounge respond to daily patterns of use while continuing to serve tenants over time.
We designed the lounge with people in mind, reflecting Excel Centre’s commitment to health, comfort and a high-quality working environment.
Aligned with the building’s WELL Core Platinum certification standards, the space supports wellbeing and day-to-day performance. Daylight, biophilia, upgraded air systems and water filtration are integrated throughout. Natural materials such as timber and stone bring warmth and texture, creating a calm, grounded space.
Acoustic zoning, sound-absorbing materials and dedicated quiet booths establish clear boundaries for focus, conversation and privacy.
In Beijing’s dense Grade A office market, experience plays an increasingly important role in setting buildings apart. By rethinking the building’s identity and introducing the lounge, Excel Centre translates its premium positioning into a space that attracts tenants and supports long-term value.
