Hedge fund LMR Partners set out to create a progressive workplace that would set it apart from competition within the financial sector, recognising that its continued success and growth depended on attracting and retaining the right workforce.
Creating a sophisticated, non-traditional office space to attract its next generation of talent, whilst supporting existing staff, was a necessity within the brief. With increasing competition for mathematically skilled talent from tech companies, expectations within the financial industry are shifting and LMR’s workplace design and talent pool needed to reflect this.
Challenging design comfort zones
Following previous collaboration with M Moser to complete its London office space in 2017 (pictured right) which was outgrown due to rapid expansion, LMR Partners was keen to push boundaries in this new office relocation project that would accommodate 90+ staff.
Moving away from the traditional corporate aesthetic, the office design directly addresses the war on talent by providing a future-focused workspace that positions the brand in a new way. With the prestigious Devonshire House at 1 Mayfair Place selected as the new location, M Moser designed and delivered an elegant, integrated working environment across the ninth and tenth floors.
Making an entrance to the workplace
Entering the front of house, staff and guests are welcomed by a scalloped brass and concrete reception desk. This bespoke scalloped detailing continues throughout the workplace, embodied in its rich wooden wall panels. Upholding the building’s integrity, the existing wood panel flooring on the top floor is replicated throughout the lower floor.
An organic flow of connectivity
An organic user journey guides visitors through the reception area into the main office space. Before arriving at the trading floor, they encounter a client suite and meeting rooms with refreshment facilities.
With a focus on retaining a sense of community during periods of organic growth, the floorspace has no barriers. The trading floor is open plan to encourage continuous cross-team communication as LMR expands.
A sophisticated partner’s office, situated within the centre of the trading floor, is accessible to staff through wide sliding doors - creating a less hierarchical workplace, unusual for the industry norms.
Prioritising spectacular views for all
Making best use of its impressive location, the large social space on the top floor opens out on to a spectacular roof terrace overlooking Green Park and the surrounding London landscape.
LMR wanted to give the best space in the office to its staff and create a social environment on the top floor that felt more like a bar. This has been achieved with bespoke joinery, lighting and comfortable seating, creating an agile environment for staff to unwind and enjoy.
“The final result was even better than we’d expected and we could not be happier with the end result. We would not hesitate to recommend M Moser Associates as a global workplace design partner in the future.”

Addressing changing industry expectations, LMR Partners’ new London workplace pushes the boundaries of traditional financial sector office design to embrace a new sophisticated aesthetic and people-centred approach. Setting a benchmark, the space not only functions as an engaging user journey, but a business resource to attract and retain top tech talent.
