Following increasing market demands for its advanced drug delivery products, SHL Medical required a new facility to accommodate its growing staff headcount and the needs of its clients, which represent the world’s 25 pharmaceutical companies.
Using our integrated services and expertise in interior architecture, engineering, construction and workplace technology, we delivered a 7-storey-high work environment, with direct access to its manufacturing plant, that reflects SHL Medical’s focus on world-class quality, efficiency, and confidentiality.
- Our design-build solution ensured the successful delivery of a memorable, high-quality visitor experience, beginning with the client-facing first floor.
- A connected journey across all levels is achieved using holistic design details, including a bespoke signage and wayfinding system and meeting room booking technology.
- Some of the most prominent design features presented complex technical challenges, overcome through close collaboration between M Moser experts and SHL Medical consultants.
- Located on the top level, the Executive Space is designed to foster closer, more personal business relationships with SHL Medical’s most exclusive partners.

Creating a memorable client experience
SHL Medical instils a high level of professionalism and trust in its business partners. One of our key objectives was to reflect the company’s values by creating a memorable visitor experience from the reception through the rest of the first floor, divided between the lobby, private meeting spaces and a café.
The integration of our expert design services ensured the delivery of a clean, minimal design that embodies SHL Medical’s world-class stature and a user journey that fosters closer business relationships.
A striking first impression
Upon entering the lobby, clients are invited to observe manufacturing operations from an elevated Viewing Gallery via a minimal, elegant staircase designed to strip off any visual distraction.
Our optimisation of the base building helped to connect the lobby to the manufacturing plant, communicating a sense of transparency and confidence in SHL Medical’s ability to deliver products of the highest quality.
The security checkpoint past the lobby leads to meeting spaces where business partners are then invited for private discussions. Given the sensitivity of such visits, switchable glass is used to interchange between transparent and opaque states, retaining complete confidentiality and trust between the organisation and its clients.
The visiting client journey ends with a casual, emblematic café situated in the back of the first floor, past the meeting rooms, to host informal conversations among SHL Medical partners and staff.
Enhancing the user journey
Bringing the entire workplace experience together, design details created by our brand experience and technology teams were integrated in the interior early as part of the design development process to establish a consistent look and feel across all seven floors.
While the first floor is used primarily to host visiting clients, levels 2 through 6 are reserved for open office spaces for staff, combining collaborative and private work environments to accommodate a variety of needs.
From meeting rooms and corridors to floor directories on every level, we designed a bespoke, user-friendly signage and wayfinding system that supports the look and feel of each individual space to navigate visitors and staff with a refined touch.
Integrating technology seamlessly into the workplace, the Evoko booking system is used to reserve meeting rooms on every floor. The slanted surface, inspired by the design of an elegant smartwatch and its watchband, provides an optimal viewing angle without being obtrusive.
Overcoming complex technical challenges
To ensure the delivery of a high-quality, seamless experience across the first floor for visiting clients, our design, engineering and construction teams worked closely with one another as well as with external consultants to solve a variety of complex technical challenges and meet SHL Medical’s most essential workplace requirements.
Fulfilling unique workplace needs
The unusual presence of an aquarium in a commercial lobby makes this 4.5m by 1.9m seawater fish tank dividing the exhibition space in the lobby from the rest of the reception all the more striking.
To achieve this, we worked closely with the foremost expert consultants on large acrylic aquarium manufacturing as well as experts in wildlife conservation, requiring the complex implementation of an engineering system underneath the tank.
From concept to delivery
Our team of designers and engineers followed through on the initial design concept to create an elegant design feature integrated into the lobby experience using materials of the highest quality to reflect SHL Medical values.
Concealing engineering systems
One of the most notable highlights of our engineering solution can be found in the Café where a soft, prominent lighting design uses a warm timber palette to create a spatial divider, effectively hiding air conditioning units and other MEP installations for a cleaner look and feel.
Extending exclusive invitations
Facing the elevators on the seventh floor, an additional security checkpoint leads exclusive SHL Medical clients to the Executive Space, an intimate environment on the 7th floor with a home-away-from-away ambience where guests are invited to meet with SHL executives in a more sophisticated social setting.
This Executive Space hosts a roof garden, a welcoming lounge, meeting rooms with switchable smart glass, and facilities to allow for unique dining experiences, affirming SHL Medical’s commitment to creating meaningful connections with its business partners.
Using our integrated project delivery approach as a single point of responsibility enabled us to create a unique, state-of-the-art workplace that fosters strong business relationships while accommodating adequate space for optimal production and staff growth, fulfilling the company’s most essential requirements and future objectives.
“Establishing the Liufu facility is part of our vision and commitment to advancing the production of our autoinjectors, which have helped redefine the patient experience of self-injection over the years.”
