AIA IR honours new SCMP and AllianceBernstein workplaces with three awards for design excellence

We are pleased to announce that two M Moser-designed workplaces have received International Region (IR) awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2018.

Hosted in Singapore, M Moser project leaders and members of the AIA attended the ceremony to share their insights and celebrate a selection of award-winning projects.

Our awarded projects share a focus on enhancing connectivity and collaboration at work through design excellence and sustainability, which we explore in more detail below.

South China Morning Post (SCMP), Hong Kong — Honor Award, Interior Architecture

Achieving the AIA IR’s highest Honor Award, the new South China Morning Post (SCMP) office transforms a 115-year-old newspaper company into a forward-thinking, digitally enhanced workplace. The central atrium features a striking interior staircase that interlaces five of the six total floors and amplifies connectivity throughout the space. Previously separated between three locations in Hong Kong, this complex consolidation project depicts a physical expression of SCMP’s new working culture that encourages employee mobility and well-being across a diversity of settings.

The design of this office really captures the vibrant pace and energy of a place where you can see work happening everywhere. The connective staircase is a great addition that activates collaboration.”

AllianceBernstein, Hong Kong — Merit Award, Interior Architecture & Sustainable Future Award, Interior Architecture

Capturing spectacular views of Hong Kong’s natural landscape and glittering skyline, AllianceBernstein’s new workplace embraces transparency in a space that fosters meaningful connections to the city in a change of both location and space. Recognised with the AIA IR Merit Award, the space draws upon a distinct blend of urban elements. Collaboration areas with a focus on open corner views provide a softer, more organic feel, creating indoor “retreats” for both teams and individuals to experience calming views of the harbour and local nature.

Prioritising the use of sustainable materials throughout the space, this office has also achieved the AIA IR and Dow Partner’s new Sustainable Future Award for the environmental impact of its interior. This sets a precedent for attaining significant consumption reductions in water, energy, and raw materials, contributing to both the environment and the well-being of people.

Clear as a body of work, this workplace applies flexibility and transparency to maximise daylight and openness for staff throughout the space. This creates a consistent aesthetic within an office environment where the work ethos is clearly supported by the design.”
