Hang Seng Digital,
Known as Hong Kong’s ever-growing bank since its founding as a money-changing establishment in 1933, Hang Seng Bank has thrived on its commitment to growing the local communities it serves by continuously putting people at the heart of the banking experience.
Considering a long history of innovation in an industry that changes rapidly, M Moser supported the transformation of Hang Seng’s digital floor inside its headquarters into a cutting-edge environment, enhanced through technology and creativity to facilitate the delivery of innovative banking solutions.
Designed to activate communal experiences
The new workplace journey begins the moment staff and visitors step off the elevator, where they are greeted by an arrival experience that removes the necessity of a reception desk entirely.
Remodelled from a conventional entrance into an open and welcoming kitchen area, the pantry connects to a multi-functional communal space dubbed The Egg, a symbol of fertilisation and growth. By reprogramming the front of house into a more enlivened social hub, M Moser designed a digital floor that breaks free from usual expectations of a banking environment, setting the stage for an engaging workplace that catalyses learning and collaboration.
As a key design element, The Egg greatly influenced the transformation of the digital floor, offering Hang Seng a place of community, sharing, and creativity where knowledge exchange is encouraged. A built-in projector drops down during team presentations and utilises the inner side of The Egg as a curved projection screen to activate the space for learning and sharing.
A narrative of nature and growth
Designed as an open “field” of activity and collaboration, the new digital floor takes its inspiration from the concept of an urban farm where new ideas are fertilised and nurtured through teamwork, and then packaged into innovative banking solutions to be delivered to market. M Moser’s design enables staff to work together more cohesively and modernises the banking office environment.
As a focal point of this new workplace, The Egg is encircled by meeting rooms, each bearing its own graphic displayed on windows to visually reinforce the key narrative of “G-R-O-W-T-H”.
Planned to provide more choice and comfort, The Nest accommodates the needs of staff looking for a quiet place to retreat and work on projects uninterrupted. Conference rooms and collaboration booths along large windows offer Hang Seng Digital teams a variety of options to work in more private settings with unobstructed views of Hong Kong’s Central district.
Built as a destination that stimulates connections and innovative thinking, the Ideas Bar strengthens the company’s vision of a more human-centric workplace. It integrates social, technological and well-being elements in an environment where people can come to work or engage in meaningful conversations over food, beverages and shared experiences.
Illustrating a strong connection with its communities
To highlight Hang Seng’s strong connection with the people of Hong Kong, M Moser invited local artist Bo Law and studio Brainrental to create custom-painted murals that unite digital and physical worlds. Unique design details displayed around the workplace illustrate a proud company history deeply rooted in the city’s fast-evolving culture.
Promoting team spirit through digital applications
Leveraging technology in the workplace, M Moser created an interactive and voice-controlled interface next to the Ideas Bar to activate engaging digital experiences. Named the Success Wall, this touchscreen installation manifests strong internal culture by celebrating Hang Seng’s awarded achievements, updating staff on latest news and company events, and allowing teams to capture memorable community moments using an integrated selfie camera.
Reprogrammed with a more flexible, activity-based model, the new Hang Seng Digital workplace offers diverse choices as to where and how people work. It reflects a company belief that supports collaboration and innovation, amplified by The Egg where staff can come together over insightful town hall meetings, social gatherings, and other company-related events.
Standing at the nucleus of the digital floor, this communal space fosters open communication and breathes new life into Hang Seng Digital’s new work environment.
