We partnered with a leading global pharmaceutical organisation to deliver a new Sydney headquarters that consolidates its workforce, enhances collaboration and supports future-ready ways of working.
Relocating from a multi-floor industrial park setting to a single-floor workplace in North Sydney’s CBD, the client had the ambition to create a high-performing environment. One that could bring teams together, optimise space, support hybrid work and serve as a platform for engagement, learning and connection.
By combining workplace design with change management expertise, we delivered a cohesive strategy aligning people, space and business goals to enable continued growth in Australia.
The client appointed our team through a competitive design pitch, where our integrated approach proved instrumental in aligning with the client’s goals from the outset. A clear planning strategy focused on neurodiversity, inclusivity and wellbeing resonated strongly, alongside demonstrated experience in delivering for similar pharmaceutical organisations.
From early concept through completion, our multidisciplinary team worked in close coordination across disciplines. Through this collaboration, workplace design, stakeholder engagement and technical expertise enabled informed decisions.
The project presented a number of challenges that required careful orchestration. A global stakeholder group needed to align with local business needs, while budget discipline was maintained through continuous cost tracking alongside an independent quantity surveyor.
At the same time, our team worked within a newly constructed, high-performance building targeting Green Star and NABERS standards. Close collaboration with the base-building team ensured the fit-out aligned with environmental requirements. Particularly in relation to mechanical systems, power usage and fresh air allowances.
Our integrated methodology enabled highly coordinated documentation, supporting accurate tender pricing and reducing downstream risk. We approached value engineering strategically, preserving key design intent while maintaining cost alignment.
We sat down with the client to understand team dynamics across two floors in the previous office. This informed the consolidation into one cohesive floor, enhancing connection and spatial efficiency.
The team built a central social hub at the heart of the workplace, increasing visibility and interaction. Around it, flexible communal spaces support both daily use and larger events, without duplication. In parallel, we reallocated premium perimeter areas to shared settings, ensuring equitable access to natural light and views.
Beyond this, neighbourhoods are structured to support a range of workstyles, with a variety of settings that balance focus, collaboration and restoration. Wellness spaces, such as a prayer room and nursing room, alongside biophilic elements and sensory considerations further enhance user comfort and inclusivity.
The integrated approach translated into tangible outcomes for the client:
