Creating a flexible, open and collaborative environment for a growing number of staff

Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Taipei

Merck Sharpe & Dohme (MSD)’s ultimate aim was to create a new Taipei office able to accommodate a growing number of staff in a flexible, open, collaborative environment that is optimised to suit team and individual work needs.

To stimulate staff creativity whilst providing a visual cue to MSD’s health-related business, M Moser envisioned a ‘natural’ design theme that would prevail throughout the office.

It is expressed both materially, by using timber flooring for example, and aesthetically through features such as green lawn-like carpets and tree inspired columns. The design is also illuminated with natural light.

The environment features 120-degree workstations which encourage collaboration between staff members of all levels. Meeting spaces, both open and enclosed, are interspersed throughout the working area.

Some are optimised for use by specific teams, such as the marketing department’s cylindrical brainstorming room. Other striking features include a town hall space with cube seating, an oval staff pantry and a wood-decked external terrace.
